Perfectly Imperfect (Jam’n Style)

Here’s the truth: at Jam’n, we don’t do perfect. Never have, never will. Perfection is overrated anyway — kind of like gas station sushi. Sure, it looks tempting, but it’ll probably just make you miserable later.

Life (and business) is messy. Orders get mixed up, labels peel, flower gets a little sticky, and sometimes you hit “send” on an email before spellcheck does its thing (guilty ). And that’s okay.

One of the main reasons we started Jam’n was to give our son Noah a place to grow and thrive. He’s an adult with disabilities, and part of our mission is making sure he has a space where mistakes are not just tolerated — they’re expected. Honestly, they’re half the fun.

Now, speaking as a therapist, I see this all the time: perfectionism is everywhere. And it shows up for all kinds of reasons. Some people chase it because they’re afraid of being judged. Others because they grew up feeling like “good” wasn’t ever good enough. Sometimes it’s pressure from work, school, or even social media — the highlight reels where everyone looks like they have it together (spoiler alert: they don’t).

The problem is, perfectionism doesn’t actually make us better. It keeps us frozen. You get so worried about making a mistake that you don’t try at all. You stop experimenting, stop playing, stop growing. And that’s a shame, because growth only happens in the “oops” moments.

That’s why we run Jam’n the way we do. When Noah tapes a box a little crooked, or when we launch a product with a label that’s not 100% lined up, we don’t freak out — we laugh, we learn, and we keep moving. (Okay, full honesty: Joey does not laugh when things aren’t lined up. At all. And that’s okay too — because giving grace goes both ways. Some of us need neat lines to feel grounded, some of us thrive in the chaos. That balance is part of what makes Jam’n, well, Jam’n.)

The goal isn’t perfection; the goal is purpose, confidence, and growth.

So if you ever feel weighed down by perfectionism, take a page from Jam’n: embrace the mess. Crooked tape? Still shipped. Sticky jar? Still fire. Life with flaws? Still beautiful.

Because around here, “oops” isn’t failure — it’s proof that you’re in the game.
